Jaron Ennis is being over confident about Sebastian Fundora

Jaron Ennis had a solid win over Xander Zayas last weekend in boxing but might be getting a little ahead of himself.

For us, Jaron Boots Ennis is now a top ten pound for pound boxer on the official Boxing News and Views pound for pound rankings board.

But he is not the number one boxer in the world like he said he was before his 7th round stoppage of former 154 pound title holder Xander Zayas.

He has been speaking a bit brashly how he will beat another champion at 154 pounds in the form of the towering Sebastian Fundora.

Fundora has fought way better opposition though and has been tested at the highest level against the likes of Tim Tszyu, Keith Thurman and Erickson Lubin.

All of whom he has defeated.

Zayas was the first real name of any note on Ennis’ record last weekend.

Jaron Ennis is an exciting but flawed and entertaining fighter to watch with his hand speed and combinations when he gets going.

But he gets hit way too frequently and gets involved in trading in exchanges far too often.

That is just what will suit Sebastian Fundora as well.

For a freakishly taller fighter at 154 pounds at 6 feet 5 inches tall Fundora likes to get into wars on the inside and trade.

And does well in them too. Very well actually.

You’d think with the height he would box on the outside more and stick and move but he does great work on the inside for a big man at super-welterweight.

Ask Tim Tszyu (who fights Errol Spence soon) about it — who had some real toe-to-toe battles with Sebastian Fundora — who Fundora defeated twice.

Once on points in 2024 and the other time by stoppage in 2025.

The level of mistakes and poor defense like Ennis showed last weekend vs Zayas — against someone like Sebastian Fundora — will not work out well for Jaron Ennis.

Sebastian Fundora is a very dangerous fight for Jaron Ennis. Make no mistake about it.

For spectators though, it is possibly a very entertaining one.

For now however Sebastian Fundora appears to be looking at a smaller fight.

Let’s see who both boxers fight next.
