Shakur Stevenson never came across as a ducker in boxing but that has all changed now with Devin Haney.
His manager James Prince has only added more gasoline to the fire on that already for him.
A real blazing trash can set alight full of gasoline at the moment is the whole situation with Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney.
Haney’s father and manager, Bill Haney, has even said the catchweight fight at 144 pounds has been offered to Stevenson.
But they have heard nothing back.
James Prince the manager of Stevenson has been making some strange threats in interviews to Devin Haney bringing up double-barrell shotguns.
No one is impressed with that talk. Nobody wants to hear empty threats.
The fight is a great scrap on its own merits and in its own right.
It only shows they do not want the fight even more now and are not as confident as they say they are about getting in there with Devin Haney.
Devin Haney is one of the bigger names in US boxing and would get them and Stevenson excellent money for such a bout.
And they are even handing him that on a plate with the 144 pounds catchweight.
This situation is starting to portray Stevenson as someone who only fights fighters where he has some sort of edge.
Teofimo Lopez, his best win where he bust Lopez up last time out and schooled him by UD on points, was against a very faded Lopez.
It is not clear if the offer from Haney includes a re-hydration clause or not yet.
Some are saying that Shakur Stevenson might be scared to fight Devin Haney without a rehydration clause.
Even at the 144 pounds catchweight proposed by team Haney.
Usually those clauses are around 10 pounds or so.
Maybe that is what professional boxer Shakur Stevenson wants but the catchweight is already a big thing for team Haney to make the fight.
He should not need that clause.
It conveys him and his team ducking Haney at this point.
Professional boxer Devin Haney only moved to the welterweight (147 pounds) division recently anyway.
Let’s see what Stevenson and his team do next.
