Mayweather On Malignaggi Quitting McGregor Training Camp

Floyd Mayweather on Malignaggi standing down as a Conor McGregor sparring partner just weeks ahead of their fight in Vegas.

It is well known that Paulie Malignaggi quit the Conor McGregor training camp at this stage – after the New Yorker essentially became a main part of the story line of the fight coming into August 26th.

Malignaggi for his part has been vocal about McGregor since leaving the camp.

McGregor has refused to get drawn into a war of words as of yet however. Instead remaining focused on the brutal task the lays in front of him in a short couple of weeks time.

When speaking to the world’s media at his training base this week, Mayweather reacted to hearing that McGregor and Malignaggi parted companies by saying:

“It’s not my thing to get in the middle of their back and forth. Paulie is a friend of mine. I respect him as a fighter. He’s one of the best commentators out there because he has knowledge of the game. A lot of time we have commentators at fight shows who never fought a day in their life.”

Many have commented that McGregor could have really used Malignaggi to great effect coming up to his final preparations ahead of stepping into a pro boxing ring for the first time.

It is understood that the two shared at least 24 rounds with one another in total.

McGregor has other sparring partners in the camp but from a boxing perspective Malignaggi as a two-time world champion was certainly the most credentialed.
