Andy Ruiz has signed with new promotional ties today in boxing and is due to comeback soon to boxing, at last.
That is what he will try to do at least.
He has not officially signed for a fight yet but at least he has signed with a promoter and signals that he is somewhat serious about returning to boxing.
It looks to be a low key fight for Andy Ruiz Jr targeted first however.
But he will need to get the cob webs and ring rust off first of course — or at least try to.
People forget it was not that long ago that he shook up the world and marked the beginning of the end of Anthony Joshua from the UK.
When he knocked him out with scintillating fast hand speed and power in their first fight back in their first fight in 2019.
He then lost discipline though, piled on the weight and lost the return fight on points later this year.
Still, Joshua was never the same boxer and has only stumbled more and more as years went on since in boxing.
Andy Ruiz, from America, but the first heavyweight and only one of Mexican heritage in history, achieved that.
He’s had a couple of wins since over Chris Arreola of the US and Luis Ortiz of Cuba but drew with Jarrell Miller in his last fight in 2024.
That is all the fights he has though. Little activity since.
Once one coach Teddy Atlas said one time that much of his inconsistency was due to his over eating and so on.
Atlas likened it once to that of a drug addict but that Ruiz piled on the pounds with huge amounts of food.
Far more than just pigging out — real mass consumption of food on huge levels.
It appears to be a mental thing with him almost.
Can he control this in the comeback and what weight will he fight at again when he is back?
We once thought that maybe a slim Ruiz would be the most effective but you know, maybe Andy Ruiz does well around the 230 pounds.
Or the 225 pounds mark or so.
Some weight on him where he is mentally content and not miserable.
But enough hand speed on him and much gas tank with him whereby he seems to be very effective there at that weight over the full 12 rounds.
His boxing ability will still be there but is his heart?
That is the question.
