Murat Gassiev vs Peter Kadiru being proclaimed as a heavyweight title fight is further proof why the old 4 belt companies are finished

Murat Gassiev vs Peter Kadiru is this weekend in a heavyweight bout and is being claimed in small quarters as a heavyweight title fight. It is not.

With respect to the two boxers, it is not a heavyweight title fight.

One of the old 4 belt companies is claiming it is and spectators of the sport are not dumb like that belt company think.

No one is calling it a title fight at all this weekend.

It remains a decent scrap though but acts as a further nail in the coffin for the old 4 belt companies who are scraping the barrell and clutching at straws now.

To call this fight a title fight this weekend only shoots them in the foot even further.

The fight is a solid match up though and could be entertaining and so could the card, that is what counts.

And why people will want to watch it this weekend. It takes place in Moscow in Russia

32-year-old Russian Gassiev has competed at cruiserweight before and was a champion there and had some success.

He holds wins over solid fighters at cruiserweight over the likes of Yuniel Dorticos, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and Denis Lebedev.

Those are his three names and wins of note we see on his resume — that he won in 2016 (Lebedev), 2017 (Krzysztof Wlodarczyk) and 2018 (Dorticos).

He lost to Alexander Usyk at cruiserweight in 2018 later that year though.

He had a win only last year in 2025 at heavyweight over Kubrat Pulev in more recent bouts.

Gassiev has a professional boxing record currently of 33-2-26 KO.

His opponent from Germany this weekend Peter Kadiru is 29 years old and holds a professional boxing record of 23-1-13KO.

He has been based in Germany mostly and has not really fought anybody though. Nowhere on the level Gassiev has, certainly.

He is a bit of an underdog this weekend but he will have a little bit of a height reach advantage over Gassiev.

The fight and card this weekend is worth watching in Russia but one of the old belt companies calling it a heavyweight title fight is just not accurate.

It is not and is why the old boxing belt companies are further done, more hard evidence of such, again.

You can’t just keep elevating people randomly to super, diamond, gold, interim, regular and other type of boxing champions and expect people to believe it.

They do not.

The fight remains a solid scrap though and possibly an entertaining fight this weekend in Russia.

Worth watching.

For the quality of the fight itself on its own merits.
