Errol Spence is wrong about Al Haymon

Al Haymon was once a powerful adviser in boxing from the US and founded Premier Boxing Champions but like them, he is on his way out.

That is the truth of it.

Errol Spence was one of PBC’s main stars back in the day but he has not boxed in years.

PBC still put on occasional solid fights but only because they are cashing out old faded champions in the sport.

They do them very infrequently now compared to back in the day at huge prices and have no prospects or new fighters coming though at all anymore.

And then, even sending them to the other side of the world to places like Australia.

Errol Spence has a comeback this month on July 25th in Australia against Tim Tszyu at a catchweight above super welterweight.

He has not fought in three years.

Speaking recently he said to Andre Ward he had turned down when turning pro some cash from Top Rank to sign with them.

Like Haymon, Bob Arum (founder of Top Rank), is no no longer as relevant anymore in the new age of professional boxing.

That is the truth more and more every day — as boxing moves on and returns back to the masses.

Spence said he went with Haymon when he turned pro in the beginning (after he was paid around $2000 a month from USA boxing as an amateur) because he seemed more genuine and came across as nice.

He claimed that Haymon was always looking out for him and spoke to him about saving his money and what about after boxing.

Rubbish.

If that is the case so, why did Spence admit recently that he only took the Terence Crawford fight to pay his bills three years ago so desperately?

If Haymon was talking to him so much about saving his money and outside of boxing — why did he need to fight Crawford so bad because he was out of cash?

Haymon is mildy more responsible than some of the other now washed up and less relevant players in boxing like Eddie Hearn, De La Hoya and Arum and so on — but he is the exact same.

Where was Haymon lately when four-division world champion Adrien Broner took to excessive alcohol drinking?

Where was Haymon recently when his first big client in the sport and former friend Floyd Mayweather, went broke after burning through $150 million it is thought?

Nowhere.

That is where.

Now Al Haymon and Floyd Mayweather look to be enemies.

Let that sink in.
