Edgar Berlanga is a fighter who knows about big hits and heavy defeats and has fought some quality opponents in his career.
The big hitting super-middleweight Puerto Rican from New York came unstuck however at the highest level against Canelo Alvarez.
Then against Hamzah Sheeraz of the UK. The latter knocking him out last summer.
He has not fought since but was a keen viewer of the Jaron Ennis knockout of Xander Zayas fight last weekend.
He said Zayas went out like a champion in the 7th round knockout defeat despite losing the fight.
Many have been quick to criticize Zayas but Berlanga is right.
At least Zayas went out all guns blazing and his stock rose in defeat in doing so. Also hurting Ennis in the fight as well at times.
He kept fighting in the final rounds even when he was hurt and was still trying to land big shots not long before the end.
Ennis just had a bit too much in his locker for him down the stretch but was wobbled by Zayas at points earlier on in the bout.
Zayas will surely move up to 160 pounds next up and be fresher at the weight and pursure meaningful big fights at that weight category.
His undefeated 0 gone from his record means nothing and he has only put himself in line for big fights next up with the performance last weekend.
Jaron Ennis might look at the Vergil Ortiz fight or someone else at 154 pounds like Sebastian Fundora or someone.
