Austin Trout is a former super-welterweight champion of the world from the US but has been retired for a minute now in boxing.
He knew how the old way the sport worked based on marketing fighters more on undefeated records.
And moving them up and down old rankings of the old four belts in boxing that are no longer important anymore.
He has come out in a tirade against the belts lately and is the latest former champion or current champion to do so.
He said the belts can die a horrible death (referring to the old four belts) in boxing.
He mentioned back in the day that having a belt, any of them, made him think he was more marketable as a fighter.
And that back in the old days, it was all about the belt.
He will be happy to know that is no longer the case.
So much so that even the lineal heavyweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk vacated all his belts in the trash can last week.
Not only him, Jessie Rodriguez vacated his as well.
The lineal champion at 115 pounds, did the same last week.
This is only the latest move against the old four sanctioning bodies and this also comes at a time when other new belts are being created anyway.
By organizations and private companies.
So there has never been so many belts in boxing as there is now, hence, why they are not viewed as important by spectators anymore.
Time and time again all you hear from spectators is things like ‘I will care when the fight is made’.
Time and time again you hear that not only from spectators of boxing in America but worldwide too.
It is so common it obviously points to the fights themselves as being the number one most important thing in professional boxing.
