Usyk has done the right thing and sent the old now defunct 4 world title companies and their belts packing. Now he has options.
The old sanctioning bodies have had their belts tossed in the trash can again this past week by again leading world pound for pound boxers.
Lineal heavyweight champion Usyk and also lineal champion at 115 pounds Jessie Bam Rodriguez dumped them all last week.
The old belts are truly done now.
But now, everyone wants to see what fight lineal heavyweight champion Usyk will try to go for.
The big one in our view and the most interesting one is David Benavidez.
As like Usyk, Benavidez is also undefeated in the sport and has moved up through the weights to claim titles on his way.
He only just won a title at cruiserweight (one weight below heavyweight) in his last bout over a very slow Gilberto Ramirez.
Benavidez looked very fast in the fight but did use the elbow a bit as pointed out by Artur Beterbiev, the former light-heavyweight champion, recently.
So it is natural fight and one that would see a meeting between two boxers who have gone through the weights over the years.
Besides, Benavidez was very heavy in his old days and used to walk around between 250 to 260 pounds as a teenager.
That not many new boxing fans might not know.
So heavyweight boxing is nothing new for Benavidez either. He would have sparred heavyweights over the years as well.
He looked very fast up at cruiserweight and Usyk is just a blown up cruiserweight.
There is not a whole bunch of size difference.
Usyk, the old Usyk at least, was a much better boxer than Benavidez but Usyk fell off the train tracks in his last fight with Rico.
A man with just two professional boxing bouts to date.
Losing much of their fight up until the end when Usyk rescued the victory with an uppercut on the backfoot.
Usyk in theory is a much better boxer than Benavidez but Usyk is on the way out now and Benavidez might sense that after the Rico fight.
Benavidez the more aggressive, come-forward, combination-throwing, all-action style of the two.
Usyk the more counter puncher and boxer of the two. Maybe the slightly bigger hitter of the two.
But a faded Usyk who looks like he needs one last big fight to get him out of bed to train in the morning and his motivation back.
The fight would sell well enough in the US as well.
Let’s see what heavyweight boxer Usyk does next.
