Jaron Ennis has said some things on weight ahead of this week’s big fight in boxing but will it make a difference.
The old saying in boxing goes is that weights do not win fights in professional boxing.
Who is the better boxer does, usually.
Ahead of this weekend’s big fight in New York — Jaron Ennis who takes on Xander Zayas — has said moving up to 154 pounds has been an advantage to him.
He claims to be stronger than ever from going from welterweight to super welterweight.
The former welterweight world champion is expected to win this weekend but it not clear cut.
Sometimes moving up in weight does really benefit boxers.
There is a trend at the moment in recent times in boxing where boxers are killing themselves to make weight in pro boxing.
Basically that has had the effect on some of even causing health problems and adverse performances in the fights themselves.
Cardio and gas tank are the things cutting too much weight and coming into a fight dehydrated can cause.
Not to mention the dangers to the brain with a pro boxer getting hit in the head if his brain is heavily dehydrated.
Jaron Ennis however looks to be the type of boxer that has benefitted from the move up in weight.
Ennis should have a little bit more about him to get the job done on Saturday and has boxed more as a pro.
He has 35 pro fights to his name as opposed to 23 for Zayas.
Both are undefeated but Ennis is the bigger hitter and the added weight should help him but it is not the deciding factor for us.
He is the slightly better boxer and hits a bit harder and that is what is the key difference here.
His engine over the distance should be a bit better in theory at the higher weight and he should be more powerful.
And explosive.
But there is a lot of hype about him and his record some have said is a bit padded and so on.
Jaron Boots Ennis will find out this weekend if he is as good a fighter as some claim he is.
Xander Zayas goes into this weekend with no pressure though and can absolutely win or at least cause many problems for Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
