Hurt Again: Why Callum Walsh Must Fire Freddie Roach Now

Why Callum Walsh Must Fire Freddie Roach Now

Boxing trainer Freddie Roach from the US has trained many champions in his career but it is time Callum Walsh moved on from him.

The Irish boxer got the victory on Saturday night but had been dropped again.

He has been stunned and dropped and hurt in fights plenty in his professional boxing career already.

Roach must go immediately, if he he is interested in fighting in big fights;

  • Dropped again in Dublin – same defensive flaw, no improvement
  • Knockdown came from basic carelessness – dropped guard expecting a break
  • Roach’s famous training hasn’t translated – Walsh keeps getting caught
  • Roach is 66, has Parkinson’s for a long time – mitt work gets harder every fight
  • Tremor worsens with concentration slip – Roach admits it himself
  • Walsh already left Roach’s gym before this fight – trained under assistants
  • Walsh admitted camp wasn’t right – “it showed in the ring”
  • Wild Card is chaotic – no consistency in training partners
  • Roach has too many fighters – Walsh isn’t getting enough attention
  • Walsh is already taking control – said “I don’t want to let that happen again”

At the end of the day Roach is a very attacking focused trainer in boxing in terms of his ethos.

He neglects defense sometimes and is advanced in age and his Parkinsons disease also.

He is past it and it reared its head on Saturday night.

Boxing coach Freddie Roach had not been even in the corner on Saturday night and Dublin and did not look like he even travelled to Ireland.

Walsh has some punching power and some toughness but looked terrible, shocking, not near the highest level of the sport.

Very rigid defense and boxed scared at times.

Callum Walsh needs a different trainer immediately.
