Alexander Usyk vs Deontay Wilder is a fight that early in the year was mentioned but then it was gone, now, it is back again.
Wilder had a fight with Derek Chisora at heavyweight in the UK earlier this year and it was an entertaining scrap between two faded over the hill stars of boxing.
They showed heart in the fight but both were much past their best.
Wilder scraped a points win in the contest and he showed heart like Chisora did but his punching power and foot work were no longer there.
His legs had gone basically. When he did land the punches of old that Wilder had would have knocked Chisora out cold.
In 2026 they did nothing and Chisora was still standing until the end.
Usyk was meant to fight Wilder instead of Chisora but the timing of it did not work out and Wilder instead fought a kickboxer by the name of Rico.
An inspired man whom had only one professional boxing match going into the fight with lineal heavyweight champion Usyk and nearly shocked the world.
He would have produced the biggest upset in boxing and in all pro sports history of all time if not for Usyk pulling out a knockout right at the end to win.
Now Usyk is looking at the Wilder fight again for his final bout as he wants to do something in America and Wilder is still a big name in America.
Wilder can probably get in enough shape one last time to throw the kitchen sink at Usyk flat out for about two rounds.
That is being kind there as well.
Literally, that is Wilder’s best chance, just throw everything at Usyk for two rounds and try to knock him out.
If he tries to box him or fight him like Chisora, even though Usyk is faded and past his best as well, if Usyk even boxes 50 per cent of the ability he can — heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder will not touch him.
Let’s see if they try to make the fight or what happens next for Usyk and Wilder in terms of trying to make the bout one last time.
Usyk vacated his heavyweight belts recently and this is more about the name of Wilder being a name in the US more than anything.
Usyk is still considered the man at heavyweight and lineal heavyweight champion until someone beats him.
