Did Terence Crawford leave boxing better than Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather retiring undefeated?

Did Terence Crawford leave boxing better than Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather retiring undefeated

Terence Crawford is retired a minute now from boxing but his name keeps getting brought up in 2026 for fights with Jaron Ennis and others.

People want to see him comeback not only in America but some around the world as well.

To be in a fight in boxing of note.

But he appears content for now in retirement and is staying busy, occasionally doing interviews about fights in the sport.

And turning up at big fights and so on.

Very few in boxing retire on top and undefeated or even retire and leave the sport with lots of money in the bank and with all their faculties intact.

It is rare.

Some do temporarily but then for one reason or another they get tempted to comeback sometimes not for great reasons.

Floyd Mayweather comes to mind in that recently after burning through over $150 million in fast spending of his money.

He retired undefeated but is a mess and has had exhibitions and fights cancelled and namely the Manny Pacquiao rematch scrapped.

So, he did retire with a record of 50-0 but the 50th fight was against an MMA and UFC guy only in the form of Conor McGregor as well.

Some think that should not even counted on his pro boxing record.

Now with all the trouble he is in, he did not look like he left boxing great or undefeated at all really, did he?

He had some strange exhibitions with Logan Paul and others as well after ‘retiring’.

He tainted that record and legacy in 2026 with all the fights falling through so far.

Former super-middleweight and light heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe retired undefeated 46-0 from the sport.

He was from Wales but he didn’t really fight anyone until the end of his career when he beat Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones on points at light-heavyweight.

He did beat Chris Eubank senior in the early days though and had some solid wins over small names like Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kessler but that is it really.

Then you look at Crawford who retired recently on 42-0 and fought the likes of Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Errol Spence, Shawn Porter, Jeff Horn and Canelo Alvarez.

He went all the way up to super-middleweight though to dethrone a former pound for pound top rated boxer in Mexican star Canelo Alvarez.

His achievements and names on his resume are far better than Joe Calzaghe.

Mayweather maybe had some better names on his resume than Crawford but ruined it with everything lately at the end of his career.

And his rubbish exhibitions and the Conor McGregor fight as well at the end.

Mayweather as good as he used to be never went anywhere near 168 pounds like Crawford did.

Nowhere near.

He went as far as 154 pounds to win big fights two weights down from that.

Crawford retired best out of the bunch of them if you ask us.

Lennox Lewis went out on a high as well at heavyweight and avenged his only two defeats as a pro to Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman.

But had nothing on Crawford’s feats in the sport.

If Terence Crawford stays retired, he stands apart from the above for us.

Let’s see what Terence Crawford does next.
