Gervonta Tank Davis is back on the scene in the world of boxing but it is not clear what is going on. Some things are happening though.
David Benavidez, also an American boxer of note these days, might be passing on his father to train Gervonta Davis according to some reports.
Jose Benavidez might coach Gervonta Davis for his next fight talks suggest.
Which if is what will happen, will see a parting of company possible between Davis and his long time trainer coach Calvin.
For years Davis had a set up that worked for him and some of his old lightning speed pad work with all his coaching team was legendary.
This big a change into his boxing career is unexpected and possibly not what will help him.
Moreover, talks are now online that Gervonta Davis has reached out to the team of Devin Haney even.
Or to Haney — or at least someone on his team — about a big fight with Haney.
Gervonta Davis has gone through some madness away from boxing recently with being in jail then released.
Then many other things outside of boxing in terms of some breaches of his parole terms in the US and so on.
He has been around influencers and Adrien Broner even again and Gervonta Davis looked very shaky and not well recently here as well.
What a fight though it would be with Devin Haney.
Haney is champion at welterweight and would surely have a bit of size and strength on the smaller Gervonta Davis.
But would he hit harder than Tank though? Even up at weltrweight?
Possibly not.
If Tank could get himself in shape and keep the speed at welterweight and get in shape for 12 rounds for his cardio, who knows.
He would have a lot of speed on Haney but maybe Haney could use some reach and strength advantages to his benefit in such a fight.
Davis as he does sometimes broke his social media silence and made a brief reapparence to call out Devin Haney and called him big nose.
Haney in his retort made light of Davis being desperate.
The fact that Davis reached out though shows he might be at least getting back in there at the highest level of pro boxing.
Haney though is in talks for big fights at the moment with the likes of Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis as well.
So he is a man in demand at welterweight.
You would expect though with the size difference Gervonta Davis would look to make the fight at a catchweight.
Somewhere between 143 and 144 pounds possibly.
That would get rid of the need for any debates about the fight being fair or not.
It would be a level playing field as it would not be difficult to make that weight range either.
Gervonta Davis is very wacky and off the hinges at times and it is not clear how serious he actually is at this point.
He has done this a few times no on social media then disappeared for months on end.
So let us see what fights are next for him and how he does with them next up.
Tank Davis might be a little too small for welterweight at the end of the day.
If they want to make the fight happen somewhere between 142 and 144 pounds is where it could happen.
Who knows what fight Tank Davis will be in though.
