Shakur Stevenson is getting ahead of himself

Shakur Stevenson is getting ahead of himself

Shakur Stevenson is one of the best boxers in the sport pound for pound at the moment but he is not King of the world. Far from it.

Only the King of the world calls the shots everywhere on Earth in any country. That is almighty God, the main man on Earth and anywhere else.

Shakur Stevenson is not him and is far from it. He has had some good wins lately and we have commended him for that but there is some arrogance creeping into his fight game.

That is not good for life, professional sport, business or anything. He must guard against this after the Teofimo Lopez win.

It was a great win recently over Lopez but Lopez was past his best and has been in decline for some years now.

So much so Lopez is looking at moving up in weight now but is very out of sorts training with complete mess of a man, Floyd Maweather.

Mayweather boxes in an exhibition this weekend but the government are close in the US to seizing his passport possibly.

Stevenson outpointed Lopez recently by UD and boxed in a clinic on the night, pinging Shakur Stevenson at will and peppered him with the jab.

Lopez was a bloody mess at the end of the fight and we do not think you will see Lopez ever back at the highest level of pro boxing.

Stevenson is now saying though that he only has five years left in boxing and is looking at retiring already.

For him to be talking like this at a young age already is not good and the old saying is true.

If a fighter has his eye on the door out of boxing already and is already talking retirement, that is often not a good sign.

It shows a lack of desire sometimes. This might not be the case with Stevenson but he needs to be on guard against that.

He is defensively the best boxer in the sport at the moment by a mile. One of the best boxers pound for pound in our view, as well.

But you are only as good as your last fight and he cannot let the Teofimo Lopez fight go to his head.

There is talks a possible Devin Haney fight could happen next for Shakur Stevenson and that is a great fight if it does.

But then Haney is also possibly looking at the Keyshawn Davis fight as well at the same time.

Stevenson needs to stay focused on winning and improving as a fighter, that is always the sign of a great champion.

Not looking too far ahead and focusing on doing good right now in the present is more important.

Who knows what fight Shakur Stevenson will be in next up.
