Finally, it looks like the rather bizarre story of former pound for pound boxer Floyd Mayweather taking on Conor McGregor in MMA – could be over.

It was a story that in truth carried little logic to it.

How a 40-year-old man with no experience in another combat sport, who prided himself on minimising risk and making smart business moves during a hugely successful boxing career would risk getting his face smashed in – was absurd to begin with.

According to Conor McGregor on social media Mayweather has now pulled out of the negotiations.

Like he did before their boxing match last August, he’s referred to himself as Mayweather’s father (senior) once again in a parting blow from the negotiations:

Some have speculated that Mayweather could make a return to the sport of boxing one last time if not this year, next year.

If the right offer was put in front of him.

Don’t count on it though. For this writer’s buck, Mayweather the active fighter is done.
