Joseph Diaz Jr is now firmly out of the prospect stage with a record of 25-0 (13KO) and the southpaw featherweight is plotting an assault on the world title this year.
Golden Boy have backed this young man considerably in recent years and he’s been paying them back with hard work in the gym and exciting performances so far in the ring.
But in his heart of hearts he knows a step up in opposition is what is needed in 2018.
He knows that his acid test is yet to come but Victor Terrazas next week on Feb 22nd will mark a tough assignment as he gets ready for a crack at the title.
Boxing News and Views were advised that Diaz said the following of the fight:
“I’m going to showcase my power, speed, experience and ring intelligence. I know [Victor] Terrazas is a former world champion, but my skill is the best at 126 pounds. I’m excited to headline this fight because I’ll be kicking off the year for Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN. I’m going to take advantage of this and put all the champions at featherweight on notice. Hopefully after this fight, I’ll finally get that world title shot.”
Provided he wins there are a number of big fights out there potentially against a number of featherweight world champions.
