From the “El Rey” ringwalk to the two-round demolition and the post-fight callout chaos, here are the moments that made Garcia-Benn an unforgettable night in Las Vegas.
First off, there had been more than a couple, to say the least.
An entertaining night of boxing and then some, here are some of the moments in the fight in Vegas on the night on Saturday in Garcia vs Benn;
- The arena turned green and red for Garcia’s “El Rey” ringwalk
- Benn was booed repeatedly by the crowd all night
- Garcia’s right hand dropped Benn 45 seconds into round two
- Benn beat the count but was on unsteady legs
- The follow-up onslaught forced the referee to stop it
- Garcia called Teofimo Lopez into the ring post-fight
- A scuffle at ringside broke out during the callout
- Lopez got kicked out by security from the event, literally kicking and screaming, in truly mad scenes from an out of control Teofimo Lopez
- Garcia then shouted “F*** the Haneys!” to the crowd
- Benn was taken to the hospital as a precaution
- The night captured boxing’s brutal duality of triumph and concern at the same time
The Ryan Garcia form in boxing at the moment is strong again, at least on paper, but is it though, if you look at it.
Mario Barrios had been a bit overrated as a champion and Benn had been shot at the 147 pounds division, he killed himself to make the division and proved out of his depth at that level at the end of the day.
Let that sink in.
All in all, the Ryan Garcia injury concerns are gone also at this point, let’s see the next fight for him shortly.
