James Toney says Rolly Romero beats Teofimo Lopez. BoMac says Lopez “smashes” him.
Toney calls it as he sees it and usually Bomac is spot on.
He must be smoking something to think Lopez is in for an easy fight coming up to 147 pounds to face Rolly off the back of that Stevenson beating over the duration earlier this year.
Some notes on this;
- Toney is a Hall of Famer who fought elite opposition – BoMac never stepped in the ring at this level
- Toney’s read is simple: “Rolly is too big, too strong” – Lopez is moving up to 147 after struggling to hurt anyone at 140
- BoMac calling it an “easy fight” ignores the size discrepancy – Lopez hasn’t stopped anyone of note since lightweight
- Toney sees Romero’s growth – he outboxed Ryan Garcia over 12 rounds with newfound discipline
- Teofimo just got dominated by Shakur Stevenson – lost 119-109 on all cards and took damage
- Rolly Romero has real welterweight power and an awkward style that gives skilled boxers problems
- BoMac underestimates the mental edge – Romero is riding high, Lopez is rebuilding after humiliation
- Toney’s track record with big-fight predictions is legendary – fans say he’s “never wrong”
- US analyst Stephen “Breadman” Edwards agrees with Toney – weight and timing favor Romero in a close decision
- BoMac saying “smash” is pure hype – this is a 50/50 fight at best, and the naturally bigger, stronger fighter has the edge
Look, Toney gets thing incorrect occasionally but usually he is very good in his calls in boxing.
Often goes against the grain and speaks his mind.
James Toney has not changed nor ever shall, he minced Shakur Stevenson to pieces lately also.
The fight is a live one on Saturday night, if Lopez is underestimating Romero he is in for a surprise.
