Teofimo Lopez has a long history of racist remarks, from “monkey” comments to banana stunts. But is he genuinely racist or just too stupid to realize how his words sound?
That lie detector test he took before the Rolly Romero fight on Saturday does not mean he is a racist, he is not.
Dumb and rather stupid though, not the brightest tool in the boxing planet sometimes is Lopez.
Some notes on this;
- Called Black fighters “monkeys” and “banana” fighters – claimed it was just trash talk to sell fights
- Sent Keyshawn Davis bananas and watermelon, then ate one on camera laughing – zero self-awareness
- “Apologized” for slavery after losing to Shakur – bizarrely said “my condolences to all you guys”
- Then said “Jesus was black” as if that made everything okay
- Ignored his father’s entire game plan against Stevenson and got outboxed every round
- His dad admitted the plan was solid but “my son didn’t do what I told him”
- Called Shakur Stevenson a “fraud” before the fight – then got completely schooled
- Claimed he’d fight Terence Crawford at 160 or 168 – delusional weight jumps for a 140-pounder
- Said “the only one who could beat me is me” – accidentally told the truth
- Genuinely believes offensive “promotion” is clever and can’t grasp why people are mad
Teofimo Lopez is not a racist but can be very stupid at times.
There is a difference.
