Devin Haney is looking like the main man at 147 pounds at this point after Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis recently, all three big name US boxers.
The latter two did not go ahead at this point in fight offers to face Devin Haney though.
A strange thing.
Both stood to have made a lot of money by fighting Haney.
Haney has become a big name in recent years mostly in the US in boxing through some very solid victories and he is a multi division champion at this point after his last bout in the ring.
Defeating Brian Norman Jr, Norman a tough fighter for anyone.
Haney had a defeat to Ryan Garcia overturned to a NC some years back after Garcia popped for PED’s after the bout, all be it trace amounts.
So Garcia has some notoriety and popularity in the sport, primarily in the US but people in the UK and Europe have heard of him.
The thing is in Haney he is not exactly outstanding at any one thing in his technical boxing game.
He has solid punching, solid jab, great cardio and conditioning and has above average defense and movement.
It is tough in some regards to pinpoint the reasons boxers are avoiding him as they can make a lot of money against him.
He is tough to beat.
That is the reason basically.
They do not like their chances in fights against him, clearly.
Particularly up at 147 pounds at this point, the division really suits him, he is strong there and he is not killing himself to make that division.
He even offered Shakur Stevenson a 144 pounds and that had not been accepted so he is doing something very right.
Davis to then avoid him and Davis stood to have made a career high pay day is very surprising though.
As it represented an instant huge fight at 147 pounds for Davis, a boxer not long at the division and just in it basically.
Devin Haney is avoided as he is an outstanding boxer, that is the simple retort to it.
He has a difficult boxing style for some and does a lot of things right, a tough man to beat at times.
He is very strong up at 147 pounds also. It suits him there.
