Andy Ruiz is the only Mexican champion at the heaviest division in boxing history but Deontay of Alabama is the biggest puncher that ever lived.
That in itself is a big sell by itself, it used to be at least. The problem is that the big hit from Deontay is not there anymore.
Against Derek Chisora earlier this year of the UK it proved this and he had lost that punch that he had been famed for.
It connected on Chisora often but Chisora stood there and did not move from it.
Ruiz is durable himself but has not boxed in ages and is very inactive. He is coming back soon to the sport, at last, against a very small name though.
It had been suggested that he could fight Deontay after but it looks like Usyk, the lineal heavy champion, is pursuing a possible fight against Deontay again.
Usyk even gave up all the old belts recently belonging to the old not relevant boxing belt companies anymore.
Usyk literally chucked them all recently in pursuit of some are saying is either a Deontay fight in the US or even a boxing match in the US against Jon Jones of the UFC.
Ruiz if he did get in there against Deontay has too much speed, hits too hard for him, Deontay does not have the same punch resistance either anymore.
It has only eroded further. Ruiz has had a rest at this point outside of boxing and that may have done him some good also.
Ruiz has fast hands and for Deontay to get in there vs him is dangerous, Ruiz can bust him early and knock him out in the early rounds if the fight did happen.
It is too much at this point for Deontay. Still, the boxers are big names in America and sure, it might sell, but an easy victory for Ruiz if they put it together.
Actually, Usyk defeats Deontay easy also even though Usyk is in decline himself after the Rico fight proved recently in his last bout in the sport.
