Alexander Usyk makes mince meat of a former champion Deontay Wilder at this stage of the game and then some.
Usyk has seen better days himself after struggling against Rico last time out, a kickboxer, to barely be victorious at the last minute.
American Deontay Wilder is totally shot to pieces as a boxer though.
His legs have gone as his close but entertaining points victory over Derek Chisora proved earlier this year.
Some notes on this:
- Stylistic nightmare – Elite technician vs. one-dimensional power puncher.
- Movement kills the right hand – Usyk’s angles and footwork prevent Wilder from loading up.
- Wilder is faded – Lost 4 of last 6 fights, 3 by KO, and looks a shadow of his former self.
- Usyk has a granite chin – Survived clean shots from Joshua and Fury; Wilder won’t stop him early.
- Endless gas tank – Usyk outworks everyone late; Wilder fades after round 6.
- No reset button – Usyk’s feints and lead hand constantly disrupt Wilder’s timing.
- Wilder can’t fight backward – Usyk would pressure him into retreat, where he’s useless.
- Usyk adapts mid-fight – Can box outside or fight inside, whichever neutralizes Wilder more.
- Mileage difference – Wilder took brutal beatings from Fury; Usyk’s career has been far cleaner.
- Even Wilder knows it – He admitted Usyk only wants the fight because he sees decline.
If this is the fight Usyk looks to pursue, it is a big name in America for him still at least.
Other than that, he should knock out the man from Alabama inside of six rounds if he is motivated.
Both are on decline, unlike the sport of boxing, that is booming again, but the fighter that has too many advantages here is Usyk.
