Shakur Stevenson claims he is still ready to make the fight against Devin Haney but he says a lot. Let’s look at balanced notes on this.
The fight all of a sudden might be back on the table.
Great.
That’s the claim of Stevenson at least that he is interested in the fight all of a sudden but Haney has said a solid point.
The bout had been offered to him even at 144 pounds and he did not accept. Some notes on this;
- The 144-pound catchweight was offered and verbally agreed to, but Stevenson never signed the contract
- After agreeing, his team went silent and failed to follow through
- He demanded 144 for Haney but was open to 147 for other opponents
- He pushed for extra conditions like a rehydration clause and for Haney to vacate his title
- When Haney reaffirmed the offer, Stevenson still didn’t accept
- He has a history of turning down major fights, including Ryan Garcia
- Haney had already proven he could make 144, making the excuse weak
- His “verbal agreement” looked like a PR move with no real intention to fight
The main thing there is he had been looking to even fight at 147 pounds but then not interested in Haney at 144 pounds.
That puts Haney at a disadvantage too.
It makes you think is he trying to haggle a rehydration clause on top of the 144 pounds and if he is, that is even more strange from him.
The fight is a legit big fight seeing American boxing stars and excellent fighters compete, plain and simple.
