Devin Haney is a champion at welterweight but he and his father, and his manager, like others, know that no longer counts for anything. Nothing at all.
All the best champions and big names in boxing lately have been vacating and tossing the old four organization belts in the trash can.
Opting to do this nearly on all occasions due to being able to go for better and bigger fights without them.
Not only making them much more money but being of benefit to the sport and spectators as well.
Whom wish to see the best fights take place between the best boxers on a regular basis.
That is what is happening in boxing now more than ever. That’s the key.
Not because of some overrated Saudi Arabian advisor Turki Alalshikh who was in boxing for a while. He is not relevant at all anymore.
He has gone way down in boxing and you never anything about him anymore? Not a thing? He is done in boxing and appears to have just been in boxing for a short while.
The fights are happening because the boxers want to make them happen. That’s why. It’s simple as that.
Devin Haney is one of the best fighters at welterweight and had offered a big fight to happen with his fellow US rival Shakur Stevenson from Newark recently.
Californian Haney had insisted the bout was offered to Stevenson at a catchweight of 144 pounds but he and his father, Bill Haney, had not heard back.
Now there is a twist in this.
Stevenson is claiming the fight can actually happen but says what is stopping the bout happening is the belt Haney has.
The bout to happen, Stevenson claims, needs Haney to give up one of his belts to allow it to happen.
It is only one of the old four belts anyway that are no longer important — that many of the big names and stars in the sport have been vacating anyway.
So this should be no problem for Devin Haney to do at all to get the fight with Stevenson on next.
This is a fight though that appears to also have Stevenson at fault in talks so far.
You’d expect as well that Stevenson behind the scenes is demanding a weight rehydration clause with Haney as well.
On the belt side, easy fix.
Haney does not have to fight Keyshawn Davis like that old now defunct organization have claimed he does.
He can go straight into the fight with Shakur Stevenson instead without it.
Simple.
