Canelo Alvarez of Mexico has a fight coming up on paper later this year but that does not necessarily count for anything in him these days.
That paper could be easily valued at the paper cost it is printed on in a short number of seconds.
That value being nothing.
As Alvarez has been saying he has nothing left to do in boxing lately and has been sounding like retiring.
He can be found out in his next fight even if he makes it to it, also;
- Mbilli throws relentless, high-volume combinations that Canelo has historically struggled against
- At 35, Canelo is showing clear signs of decline—slower reflexes and fading legs
- Canelo hasn’t knocked anyone out since 2021, suggesting his power is fading
- He’s been outworked before by high-activity fighters like Bivol and Crawford
- Mbilli is in his prime at 31, while Canelo has been fighting pro since age 15
- Canelo’s recent performances have been widely criticized as sub-par
- His loss to Crawford exposed struggles with tempo and adapting to pressure
- Mbilli punishes opponents non-stop, a nightmare for a fighter who likes controlling pace
- Canelo averages only 40 punches per round, while Mbilli throws nonstop volume
- There are real concerns his confidence and intensity have waned with age
Some points further on this also in terms of Alvarez even turning up for the bout in October;
- Canelo said he has “nothing left to prove” and “not much left” in boxing, signaling low motivation
- He admitted having “other things outside boxing,” suggesting he’s mentally checked out
- The fight was already postponed from September to October 31—he said he “wasn’t ready” for camp
- He’s had three surgeries in seven years, including elbow surgery in October 2025
- Bob Arum said Canelo “belongs on the golf course” and is “finished” at elite level
- He turns 36 and has been fighting pro since age 15—over 20 years of wear
- He said he only has “three or four fights left,” so this one could easily be cut
- His loss to Crawford exposed physical decline—fading stamina and single-punch offense
- He’s achieved everything—undisputed champ, four weight classes, massive paydays—no legacy risk to retire now
- Any minor injury or training setback could give him the excuse to pull out and walk away for good
All in all, Canelo Alvarez is shaking in boxing and outside of it.
His last fight came last year in a UD points defeat to American Terence Crawford in Las Vegas in September of last year.
He got outclassed on the night.
The victor has since retired and stayed retired, don’t be surprised if Alvarez follows that soon.
