Jaron Ennis and Terence Crawford keep getting their names brought together even though Bud Crawford is retired as well.
Some are keen to say on social media that it is Jaron Ennis is the hater of his fellow American boxer Terence Crawford (not retired).
And that the father of Ennis though is a fan of Crawford. Some points on this, though, for a minute:
- Crawford started the public criticism — he spent weeks tearing down Ennis’s win over Zayas, calling it “overhyped” .
- Crawford then called Ennis a hater — after Ennis dismissed his remarks, Crawford labeled him the bitter, envious party .
- Ennis simply doesn’t care — he said “I don’t care. None of that stuff bothers me” and stated he focuses on active fighters, not retired ones .
- He won’t fake praise — when asked about Crawford’s win over Canelo, Ennis simply said “It’s boxing” — which some called hate, others called honest .
- He has his own Mount Rushmore — Ennis named Leonard, Jones Jr., Mayweather, and Toney — not Crawford — as his all-time greats .
- He rejects comparisons — Ennis said “I fight like me, don’t nobody fight like me” and insists he’s different from Crawford .
- Crawford admitted no hate — he said “What I have to hate on him for? I supported him in the Olympic Trials” .
- Crawford also praised Ennis — he called him “a tremendous talent” and “no walk in the park for no one” .
- He’s confident, not bitter — Ennis has said “These dudes can’t tie my shoes. I’m the best in the world and they know it” — that’s self-belief, not hate .
- Crawford created the narrative — he dismissed Ennis’s rise as built on “comparisons to him,” then painted Ennis as envious after Ennis refused to engage .
Jaron Boots Ennis apparently could have fought Terence Crawford when he was active but it did not happen for whatever reason.
Look, Crawford was looking at big names like Canelo Alvarez instead anyway and went to 168 pounds to defeat Canelo.
So you can understand why the fight did not happen — in that regard.
Jaron Boots Ennis is still building his portfolio in the sport at the end of the day, now at 154 pounds.
Crawford is retired and does not look like he is coming back.
