What happened Errol Spence junior over the years where did it all go wrong for him towards the end of his boxing career?
Boxing is doing great again and is returning to the masses all the time this summer and beyond based on great fights.
Unfortunately that is not the same for Errol Spence Jr.
What happened Errol Spence that lead up to his career ending points defeat tonight against Tim Tszyu?
Here is how it unraveled for Spence of Texas in recent years and before that:
October 2019 – Ferrari Crash
- Flipped his Ferrari multiple times in Dallas, ejected from vehicle (no seatbelt).
- Suffered facial cuts, lost teeth, charged with DWI.
- No broken bones – considered a miracle escape.
December 2020 – Comeback vs. Danny Garcia
- Returned after just 14 months.
- Won a decision, but looked slightly less sharp – first signs of wear.
April 2022 – vs. Yordenis Ugás
- Won by TKO (eye injury to Ugás).
- Looked strong, but later had to have cataract surgery on his left eye from the crash.
July 2023 – vs. Terence Crawford
- First career loss – TKO in round 9.
- Knocked down 3 times, out-landed 185 to 96.
- Clearly outclassed and dominated.
July 2026 – vs. Tim Tszyu (Australia)
- Three-year layoff; returned at age 36.
- Looked slow, sluggish, low stamina.
- Lost wide unanimous decision (118-110, 117-111, 117-111).
- Announced retirement immediately after.
Where It Went Wrong
- Crash – Physical damage (eye, teeth) and psychological toll.
- Crawford – Exposed his limitations against elite speed and skill.
- Layoff – Three years out at age 36 killed his timing and reflexes.
- Tszyu – Final proof he was a faded version of his former self.
In the end, father time caught up with Errol Spence tonight.
Off he goes to where ever he goes next.
Full credit to him on an entertaining career for boxing and massive credit to Tim Tszyu on the great win tonight in boxing.
