Errol Spence confirmed his retirement moments ago following his defeat to Tim Tszyu in Australia.
It had looked like in the end he went there to just get a pay check.
It showed, as Australian boxer Tim Tszyu outpointed Texas Spence by UD on points tonight in what was a shell of the old Errol Spence.
PBC, Premier Boxing Champions, are clearly rapidly in decline and cashing out of boxing now, boxing old faded stars like Spence with no prospects coming through for them.
Here are some of the achievements of Spence over the years in the sport:
- Beat Kell Brook in the UK in 2017 to win his first world title.
- Defeated Shawn Porter in a 2019 Fight of the Year candidate.
- Dominated the previously unbeaten Mikey Garcia in a masterclass performance.
- Stopped Yordenis Ugas in 2022 to unify multiple welterweight titles.
- Returned from a horrific car crash to beat Danny Garcia by decision in 2020.
- U.S. National Golden Gloves champion and 2012 U.S. Olympian.
- Finished with a 28-2 pro record and 22 knockouts.
- Held a world title continuously from 2017 to 2023.
- Ranked pound-for-pound among boxing’s elite during his prime.
- Headlined multiple sold-out stadium shows and pay-per-view events.
Who knows what next for Errol Spence but he certainly provided boxing with much entertainment over the years.
