So did retired pound for pound king Terence Crawford recently as well for their sanctioning fees.
Many of the world’s best boxers are doing the same not just with the WBC but some of the other belt organizations as well.
People want to see the best fight the best. It was one champ per division in the old days where the best fighter in each weight class was the world champion. A better system. Boxing is changing now. Maybe this can be achieved shortly. In some way.
Stevenson said on the X platform a short time ago:
“And I just paid these dudes after my last fight.. What the hell im giving yall 100k right now for? Because yall got beef with Bud so come at me for it”
He also called them crooks in another post.
Largely fans appear to agree with him on the sanctioning fees part. As they did with Terence Crawford recently:
Usyk also recently dumped the WBO after they offered him a fight with Fabio Wardley that was not interesting enough.
These are not just regular professional boxers doing all this.
These are some of the most high profile world champions and pound for pound champions in the entire sport of boxing.
Very concerning times now for the WBO, the WBC, the WBA and IBF who are now becoming virtually less relevant all the time.
Due to them not making unifications enough for all the belts and offering champions meaningless mandatory fights that the consumer a lot of times has not even heard of.
Fans want to see the best fight the best.
This will be achieved shortly in 2026 and beyond.
It already is being achieved.
