There is something seriously up in David Benavidez at the moment, not once, but a second time lately he is looking at terrible opponents.
The Arizona man and cruiser champion is coming off the back of his biggest victory in his career against Gilberto Ramirez by stoppage last time out in the ring.
He essentially took over Canelo’s old Mexico Cinco De Mayo date in the sport this year it had been that impressive.
Michal Cieslak is not Jai Opetaia, Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev, the names spectators are interested in seeing him fight.
Some thoughts on this right off the bat and some notes;
- David Benavidez is being lined up to fight Michal Cieslak on December 12, and fans are furious
- This comes right after his career-best win over Gilberto Ramirez in May, making the letdown even worse
- Cieslak is a 37-year-old Polish journeyman who has already lost at world level
- Benavidez should be fighting Jai Opetaia, the true cruiserweight king, but keeps delaying that matchup
- He also refuses to face Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev, the two best light heavyweights on the planet
- Instead of chasing greatness, Benavidez is cherry-picking safe, beatable opponents
- He claims Opetaia isn’t worth it because he doesn’t have a belt, yet he’s chasing older fighters with no titles either
- The hypocrisy is obvious and fans are calling him out for it
- After years of talking about fighting the best, Benavidez is proving he’s all talk
- Boxing fans are tired of the excuses and just want to see him prove himself against real killers
This also is not long ago that Mikaelian had been mentioned as Benavidez’ next opponent.
Abysmal matchmaking and he cannot be doing good mentally at the moment after apparently his proposed marriage is up in flames also.
Boxing is doing great again but clearly David Benavidez is not at the moment.
Head scratching stuff the above opponent being looked at.
