Teofimo Lopez has been training alongside Floyd Mayweather and mastering his legendary jump rope routines, but none of that will matter when he steps in the ring with Rolly Romero on Saturday. Here’s why all the Mayweather hype won’t help Lopez escape Romero’s power and pressure.
First off, jump rope does not hit back.
Second off, Floyd is not getting in there to fight for Lopez against Romero on Saturday night.
Some notes on this;
- Teofimo Lopez training alongside Floyd Mayweather won’t mean anything on Saturday night, it is just training
- Jump rope routines with a retired legend don’t prepare you for Rolly Romero’s knockout power
- Lopez lacks Mayweather’s defensive instincts and ring IQ to actually fight that style and pull things off that Floyd pulled off in his career
- Lopez has already shown he’s mentally fragile in big fights before, Stevenson, Barboza, for instance.
- Romero beat Ryan Garcia and has serious one-punch power
- Training with Mayweather doesn’t transfer Mayweather’s undefeated mindset into Lopez
- Romero and Lopez have sparred for years — Romero knows exactly how to handle him
- All the flashy camp footage is just a distraction from Lopez’s inconsistency
- Romero is younger, fresher, and hungry for the win
- It is just hype from Floyd training to stay relevant using Lopez ahead of a big fight vs Rolly, Floyd trying to get some PR out of Lopez as Floyd going to oblivion at the moment
- When the bell rings, jump rope drills won’t save Lopez from Romero’s pressure and power
Romero looks locked in and focused.
More intent on doing damage in his heavy thudding shots on the bag and pads in his training in comparison at this point.
Again, bags and pads do not hit back, either, but there is more malice behind his shots it looks to us than Teofimo Lopez.
Lopez appears to have a nonchalant — almost going through the motions mentality.
Not a good idea for a title fight against Rolly Romero on Saturday.
Moving up to 147 pounds also for the fight.
