Teofimo Lopez boxing relationship with his father comes to an end and it exposes Teofimo's limitations

Father-son relationships in boxing whether as trainers or managers do not always work out. That is the case for Teofimo Lopez in the US.

It has not ended amicably or on good terms either.

Far from it.

It is beyond terminated now and it is over for the two in boxing. That is clear.

Teofimo Lopez was beaten comprehensively in his last bout against Shakur Stevenson by a wide UD points decision earlier this year.

He lost the fight fair and square yet is blaming his father for the defeat and not taking responsibility for the loss himself.

No good.

Teofimo Lopez had steered him in the ring and in his boxing career quite well over the years.

What is more shocking though is that Teofimo Lopez has claimed he needs his corner in fights like his father to elevate him and motivate him.

And that he cannot get self motivated mid fights.

He said he can’t always self motivate himself but on the night in there it is just him in there fighting.

It comes across as sour grapes towards the father and is in poor form to say the least.

Saying his father was not giving him the proper instructions just shows how limited a fighter Teofimo Lopez really was all along.

He may try to fight again and move up in weight to 147 pounds and blame the weight cut vs Stevenson.

But we would not be surprised if you don’t see him box again.

The issue was he was beaten by a better boxer in Shakur Stevenson.

And his erratic mentality in recent years had wreaked havoc with his ability to improve as a boxer technically fight-to-fight.

He is done at the highest level of professional boxing in our view.

If Teofimo Lopez does try to fight Rolly Romero (which possibly won’t even happen) he is currently self-trained as of now.

Let’s see what Lopez does next.
