Both not long ago were relatively big enough names in America in terms of the sport of boxing.
Lopez was signed with someone who gave him maybe some promotional push but Rolly Romero really came to stardom after the Ryan Garcia.
Rolly Romero beat Ryan Garcia in maybe one of the most high profile upsets in professional boxing in America in the last decade.
Garcia is very in decline himself though in recent years no matter what he says or what rubbish he spouts on Jimmy Fallon.
Americans see through Ryan Garcia now.
He said he was meant to be fighting Conor Benn next to Jimmy Fallon but has back peddled since saying he does not know who he is fighting.
Garcia had a solid win over Mario Barrios, you have to say that, but Barrios was very under par on the night.
Rolly Romero beat Garcia not long ago before that and everyone thought Garcia was going to win before hand.
Romero beat him handily on points and it went against the grain of expectations in the sport.
Garcia more than did not get the rub of the green if golf and boxing terms were to be united.
He deserved to lose and lose he did.
Teofimo Lopez comes into a possible next fight with Rolly Romero next up in bad form having been badly beaten by Shakur Stevenson.
Battered by him on points by UD and he never had a chance in the race, so to speak.
Stevenson beat him much better than Romero beat Garcia if you were to compare their two high profile fights in recent years.
But both Romero and Teofimo Lopez have been very erratic away from boxing mentally in recent years.
Their marketability and likability in America are also both at all time lows as the sport continues to return to the masses at the same time.
Talks are that they are looking at August 15th as a possible date this summer for a Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez fight.
But who knows.
The fight would see Rolly Romero fight for the first time since he won a belt at welterweight against Ryan Garcia in fact.
He has been out of the ring and has accumulated a bit of ring rust at this point.
It would see Teofimo Lopez step up in weight to 147 pounds as well to look to become a three-weight world champion.
A solid match up but who knows what fights they will be in next up.
