He may have the skill but must also have the will to get back to his best, Dmitry Bivol, ahead of this weekend.
The eye of tiger is an expression in boxing and maybe in life where one must have that determination in any endecour to be the best at it.
Boxing, especially professional boxing, is an unforgiving game. It is the hurt business.
Bivol has been around for a while now in boxing and has had some success so is he just fighting for the money now?
Of course the money’s important, but if you are number one and the best worldwide at your craft, then the money is guaranteed.
Bivol must want to reclaim the top sport at 175 pounds even though he hasn’t lost it in the eyes of some, as he’s just been out of action a while.
Over the last year or so David Benavidez has stormed onto the scene and became world champion at cruiserweight even.
So, some think, maybe Benavidez is now number one at light-heavyweight as well.
Some things to consider:
- Bivol has shown strong motivation and commitment for his comeback fight.
- Bivol has publicly promised to deliver a beautiful and exciting performance on May 30.
- He chose to fulfill his mandatory against Eifert rather than chase bigger paydays immediately.
- At 35 years old and as undisputed champion, Bivol remains focused on defending his titles in Russia.
- His long layoff and surgery recovery have not stopped him from preparing seriously for two months of camp.
- Bivol has a history of professional dedication and performing at a high level in big fights.
- No public signs of lost hunger — he is stepping back in to prove himself after the extended absence.
We will see though.
If his motivation is really there or not, if he looks to just coast and score points and nick rounds and so on, then maybe he is not looking to really push himself.
If he is looking to push himself, he will look to put on a show this weekend and really exact a beating on Eifert.
It might be a match of the Bivol skill vs the Eifert pressure — let’s see how it goes for Bivol this weekend.
