A new Terence Crawford Japan move in boxing today is a huge move for America and Asia as the sport takes off more in both and worldwide.
Terence Crawford retired earlier this year as the pound for pound undefeated boxing number one.
Following moving up to super-middleweight in 2025 to defeat Canelo Alvarez on points by UD as an underdog that shocked the world.
He retired and his retirement plans have now been confirmed a short time ago. Moments ago at a press conference in Japan Crawford launched his own boxing promotion in Japan.
Aiming to bring American boxers to Japan. He mentioned Japan can be huge as a player in worldwide boxing and also mentioned he thought Japanese boxer and pound for pound number one, Naoya Inoue, can win a world title at a fifth weight division up at featherweight.
Crawford signed the contract to get his new promotion started in joint US and Japanese relations with Gen Matsuda and Ren Hiramoto.
For those who don’t know them, here’s some on Gen Matsuda who appears to be the main business partner in the new move at least for ‘Bud’ Crawford:
Gen Matsuda
- Runs Matsuda Boxing Gym in Nagoya, Japan.
- Promotes “SOUL FIGHTING” boxing cards at Nagoya Kinjofuto Arena.
- April 5, 2026 show had Aoi Murata vs Seonghwa Bae, 8 rounds.
- Gym boxers include Aoi Murata, Otoya Inuzuka, Rento Miyazawa.
- Not Eri Matsuda, the WBA/WBO atomweight champion.
- Not Yuta Matsuda, the 9-9-2 boxer from Japan.
- Not Riku Masuda, the 6-1 Japanese Bantamweight champion.
- Signed with Terence Crawford for new US-Japan promotion today.
Good partners for Crawford to start up with in Japan and a great partner for them for the US as well to bring more American boxers to Japan.
Japan had one of the biggest worldwide successes for any boxing event with Naoya Inoue vs Junto Nakatani recently setting the 4th all time gate record.
Doing a huge amount of pay per view buys as well.
