David Benavidez Bivol plans can go up in flames if things don’t pan out the way fans think it will on Saturday night.
Maybe a little bit of a surprise, but even though Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez is the champion all the way up at cruiserweight, and a formidable one as well, to some he is actually a slight underdog against Benavidez.
David Benavidez has been impressive in recent years but more so at super-middleweight than light-heavyweight. He’s won world titles at both weight classes but moves up again to cruiserweight for the fight with ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez.
Ahead of Benavidez has claimed many times that he wants the Dmitry Bivol fight to prove after the Ramirez cruiserweight title fight, that he is the best light-heavyweight in the world.
Dmitry Bivol has proven he is the best boxer at 175 pounds thus far and he has. Mostly. You can’t take that away from Bivol. He had the first fight with Beterbiev that he lost but went on to make that right.
At least for a little while.
Bivol is coming back from injury this year and will be a keen spectator of course on Saturday night’s proceedings in the big Mexico vs Mexico fight clash between ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez.
If Benavidez is looking too far ahead to Dmitry Bivol and even slightly overlooking Gilberto Ramirez, even by just say, 0.3% even, that’s all it takes.
A tiny number as even of that of lack of focus and attention to detail on the job at hand can hand his opponent and Mexican rival ‘Zurdo’ that extra layer of advantage that he will look for.
That’s all it takes at that level of professional boxing and just one slip can result in a major derailment of the Bneavidez Bivol plans to happen in boxing.
We don’t think it will though as the Bivol vs Benavidez fight is still a big fight even if Benavidez were to lose.
It would be how he loses however.
If he were to lose in an exciting fight then the Bivol fight would still be an excellent fight to look at boxing to have a look at into making happen and become a reality.
We’ll see.
First thing is first.
That’s Benavidez vs Ramirez and it is one heck of a fight in itself.
Get your popcorn ready as certain Swiss individual might say.
It is Mexico vs Mexico this weekend — happy Cinco De Mayo 2026 boxing weekend.
Fight, fight, fight.
Roll on.
