A recent Benavidez Ramirez staredown came across as a bit overly friendly in our view but that will go out the window anyway once the first bell goes.
There’s definitely a rivalry there between David Benavidez and Gilberto Ramirez but it comes across that they get along a little bit away from boxing and in training.
They know one another well of course having sparred a lot and trained together.
One of their final staredowns before the contest showed them to be very amicable and on very good terms as they spoke friendly to one another.
Not the usual scenario between Mexican boxing rivals.
A far cry from Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales unleashing bareknuckle punches on one another while wearing suits at a formal press conference back in the day where true mayhem was let fly.
Not the case between these bigger Mexicans Ramirez and Benavidez all the way up at cruiserweight when we fast forward to 2026.
Staredowns are not always a big deal and don’t always indicate how a fight will go but it can give you a slight insight into the minds of how boxers are preparing and coming along near a fight.
The sooner a fight gets closer that is.
Neither showed any real concern for the other and there seemed to be no real edge there at all between Benavidez and Benavidez which was a small bit concerning.
They were almost getting along too well and at the end of the day this is a fight.
Whether they or nice or nasty doesn’t matter at all. It’s about the fights at the end of the day in boxing and once that bell goes, all that counts is what happens when they get in there and fight.
The build-up has been somewhat good online with documentaries showing the two taking training very serious but let’s hope that over agreeableness in their pre-fight statements and maybe a little too much camaraderie goes out the window straight away.
Mexican, America and world boxing fans will be expecting as much.
They will want to see mayhem on Cinco De Mayo weekend 2026 in boxing and that is what must be delivered.
Remember any Benavidez Bivol plans can get lit on fire this weekend if Benavidez loses.
