Shannon Briggs is a former heavyweight champion of the world and has being in there with some of the best heavyweights of his time.
‘Let’s Go Champ’ himself is an American success story in many ways and is usually in good form.
Speaking to Darren Barker in DAZN he spoke of what it was like to get hit by big George Foreman (RIP):
When I got hit by a car that’s how it felt when I fought George Foreman. That’s how it felt champ.”
He went on:
“Because he hit me at one time and he knocked me out but he didn’t know it, he hit me with another shot and woke me up.”
That is some serious punching power.
Others described everywhere Foreman hit them before as hurting all over and breaking bones all over the body including the eye socket with even glancing punches that didn’t fully connect.
As well as literally lifting Joe Frazier off his feet with an uppercut.
Shannon Briggs Reveals What Getting Hit By George Foreman Is Like
It puts into perspective how tough Muhammad Ali really was to rope-a-dope coming off a layoff from boxing and batter him down the stretch.
Tells you how much of a fierce fighter Ali really was.
Briggs has form to say the above as well.
He has been in there with the likes of many good fighters such as:
George Foreman (1997) — Briggs won a controversial majority decision to capture the lineal heavyweight title.
Lennox Lewis (1998) — Briggs was stopped in 5 rounds by the WBC champion in a brutal knockout loss.
Vitali Klitschko (2010) — Briggs challenged for the WBC title but lost a lopsided unanimous decision (nearly stopped).
Siarhei Liakhovich (2006) — Briggs scored a dramatic last-round TKO to win the WBO heavyweight title.
Ray Mercer (2005) — Briggs delivered a devastating 7th-round KO.
Francois Botha (1999) — Fought to a majority draw in a competitive bout.
Sultan Ibragimov (2007) — Lost a unanimous decision in a WBO title defense.
Recently Shannon Briggs also spoke here about how good a fighter Lennox Lewis was — in his view.
