Devin Haney vs Teofimo Lopez talks broke down this week meaning the fight is off just for now until terms can be agreed that are appropriate.
Teofimo Lopez can only get disciplined or energized for big money, that’s who he is, he fights to the level of fight.
Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine and formerly of ESPN, is a balanced and unbiased third party in the fight, and he told the Ring Magazine in a sit down that:
“The fight had been in talks for a couple of weeks. Teofimo Lopez was insisting he wanted to fight Boots Ennis at 147—that would have been a big fight. Devin Haney, of course, was headed toward a rematch with Ryan Garcia on October 11th. That all changed right after Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez scored their victories on May 2nd at Times Square on the same show. Teofimo Lopez was pretty impressive, I thought, against Arnold Barboza, and then Haney shut out Ramirez, though it wasn’t the most entertaining fight by any stretch of the imagination. They seemed to be on a collision course—everything was agreed—and then the fight fell apart at the 11th hour.”
Lopez gave his side here too on why the fight is off for now.
Haney will have his say too, saying likely that Lopez didn’t want the fight but basically, the fight can still happen at some point.
The Haney vs Ryan Garcia rematch can still happen as well.
