You may have noticed Chris Eubank senior has been virtually unseen in the Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn build-up.
So far that is. Despite a big egging from his son on his old rival Nigel Benn’s son Conor Benn’s head that grabbed world headlines.
That is due to he and his son having not spoken much in recent times but it appears things are on the mend a bit.
Speaking on his podcast ‘Call Chris Eubank’ Eubank senior of the whole egg incident:
“This isn’t the behavior I understand. Where did that come from? You know, I’m supposed to be his example, but I spoke with him a few days ago, and he told me about this egg thing. He said, “Dad, he’s a cheat, okay?” And you know, we’re promoting the fight, and these people are putting a great deal of pressure on me. The environment is very chaotic, and I got pulled into doing that. Yes, I premeditated it because these people are all over me, telling me that my dad doesn’t like me. “It’s just me, Dad.” So, you know, that’s what I thought I’d do.”
He added:
“And I’ve justified it, you know. He supposedly had some type of chemical, which is derived from eggs, and I was going to let him know because he’s been very cruel to me with his language—same with the promoters and Conor’s father. You know, I haven’t been around for this reason. Four or five years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Public, he wanted to do it his way. So, I cut ties and let him do it his way. Now he knows. Now he’s speaking the language I would speak—perhaps I’m a little more eloquent. My son is good. My son, Christopher Livingston Eubank Jr., is remarkable to have actually navigated this quagmire.”
Eubank senior clearly as unhinged (in a good way that is) as ever, some character.
A good man for sure and boxing legend of the sport.
As for his son’s fight with Conor Benn, it would be good if the production team can get him and Nigel Benn to do some sort of ‘Gloves Are Off’ or something similar with the two sons and have a lot of security there to prevent anything kicking off obviously.
It would be a big hit not just in Europe but wider afield too, they are missing something big at the moment with the marketing of this fight in that aspect.
The fight itself though is quality and a complete war to look forward to, hard to say who will win, tough call.
