Evander Holyfield explains what happened with Mike Tyson third fight

Recently a proposed trilogy fight between former heavyweight champions Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield fell apart at the last minute.

While a third fight is possible for later in the year, Holyfield for now takes on Irish-American Kevin McBride next up.

The last man to beat Tyson in his professional career.

Speaking at the official press conference for the event, Holyfield touched on what happened with Tyson 3:

“What happened is Mike and I were going to fight but somehow it went the other way. I don’t know if it was Mike’s fault or not so I just got another dance partner. So I just asked the guy who beat Mike and he obliged to come and do it so I look forward to fighting him. It’s possible if he wants to (a third Tyson fight). My whole thing is not to chase anybody.”

He added:

“My whole thing is I like boxing and boxing is one of the things where I get to help the people where all they know how to do is box. To inspire these kids and say, if you take care of yourself, you can help other people. Boxing is not for everybody but boxing is a great sport and it’s for people who came up a little different to other people who came up with a little bit more.”

One would hope the relevant authorities regulating this Holyfield vs McBride bout take all the appropriate health precautions before the bout.

If something were to happen in any of these boxing legends’ bouts, to any one of them, one would suspect that would be the end of the whole thing then.

Holyfield vs McBride is set for June 5th.

Here is a stroll down memory lane of the latter’s fight with Mike Tyson back in the day:
