This past weekend saw the emergence of a new star in the sport of boxing in the form of new world champion Oscar Valdez.
Already well known to those in the industry, but after such a big knockout win on ESPN at the weekend, now a name known to more casual sport fans.
It came off the back of what looked a worrying heavy knockout of opponent Miguel Berchelt.
Thankfully Berchelt was okay after the fight in his post-fight medicals.
No doubt will be back once again after a good rest.
Former world champion Shawn Porter put it well afterwards:
Many agreeing with Porter above.
Yes, some of the judges in the sport can be incompetent at times.
Moronic even.
That said, there’s nothing worse than what Porter is referring to above.
Health is your wealth at the end of the day.
The risks these fighters take is worth every dollar they get.
The medical side of the sport continues to evolve and improve all the time but like any contact sport, nothing is guaranteed or totally risk free at the end of the day.
