Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez is down to the final few names at the moment in terms of who he is going to pick to be his next foe in May on Cinco De Mayo weekend (May 5th) in Las Vegas.
Leading candidates thus far appear to be the UK’s Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith.
Apparently both have been given an ultimatum of Monday to decide on respective offers tabled to them however.
Ultimatums in boxing typically get extended again, again and again from experience though.
With all the ongoing negotiations and back and forth chat, now, Canelo has rather jokingly proposed another name for a fight with him.
A young man in his own stable.
Fellow promotional stable mate Ryan Garcia no less — who improved his professional record to 20-0 on Friday night in emphatic fashion with the following:
What a peach of a punch there, in fairness.
Straight after the fight talk of a mouth watering bout against fellow young rival Devin Haney transpired and has wet the appetite of boxing fans the world over:
Canelo Alvarez, despite the massive weight difference, has now said the following of Garcia’s latest professional outing:
Perhaps not the most perfect English there, Canelo can of course be forgiven for that with Spanish as his native tongue.
Don’t expect Canelo to be getting in there anytime soon with Garcia mind you.
Whatever the future holds, expect big things for 21-year-old Garcia who has also being linked with a step up fight against Jorge Linares on Canelo’s under card in May.
