Some very sad news is breaking at this time in the sport of boxing.
It is with regret on Christmas day to confirm, that according multiple local reports coming out of Florida, that professional fighter, Cuban cruiserweight Yendris Rodríguez Valdéz is reported to have been fatally shot to death on Monday just gone (December 23rd).
The head coach from his gym, Osmiri Fernández of Moro’s Boxing Gym has formally confirmed the tragic news on social media.
30-year-old Valdéz had only just fought last weekend in Florida to a draw against Drew Dwelly at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo.
It is understood so far from early reports that some form of dispute broke out at Valdéz’ place of work outside of the ring.
It has been reported that a gunshot was fired that then fatally wounded him.
Originally from Havana, Cuba, Valdéz held a professional boxing record of 2-7-1 (2 KO).
