Freddie Roach Talks About Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is back in Manny Pacquiao’s corner for his big upcoming fight with Adrien Broner on Showtime pay per view that takes place on January 19th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The biggest fight the two ever had together was of course against Floyd Mayweather back in May 2015 in a bout that ultimately Mayweather won by decision.

It still has left a bad taste in the mouth of Freddie Roach however to this day — as he always felt that Pacquiao’s shoulder injury hampered their chances in the bout.

Speaking to Fight Hype Freddie Roach said of Mayweather and Pacquiao’s meeting at the LA Clippers basketball game this week:

“I’m sure he gave him a Manny Pacquiao t-shirt! Good, Floyd put himself on TV for a reason. He wants people to still know that he’s still fighting, that he’s still in action. He won by knockout. He fought a smaller person. He’s in the limelight again. For this fight or any future fight to happen things like that (for publicity purposes) have to happen. The winner of this fight (Pacquiao vs Broner) may get him. We hope so — but we don’t know yet. We can only concentrate on one fight at a time.”

He added:

“No, I’d like to see Mayweather (for Manny next if he beats Broner). I want that one more time!”

It would seem that all signs are pointing to a rematch this summer at this time.

That said, Pacquiao must first get past a dangerous opponent who is younger than him in the form of Adrien Broner next up.

If he does, expect a rematch with Mayweather in the summer.

If it happens one would hope both boxers will give the fans value for money and entertainment to erase any lingering bad feelings about the first fight a few years back.
