‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter became WBC welterweight champion live on Showtime (no pun intended) in this weekend’s boxing action Stateside.
A unanimous points victory over fellow stablemate Danny Garcia ensured that Porter’s comeback to world champion status was complete.
Porter lost his IBF title a few years back to Englishman Kell Brook but after a determined few years in training and in the ring, he got back to that mountain top in the end.
Hard work as it always does in the end, paid off.
Speaking after the fight Porter reacted to the win saying on social media:
“Unbelievable feeling tonight to be a champion again. If you believe it, and do what it takes to achieve it, You will!! I did!! Praying God blesses
@DannySwift and his family through this experience and that he is in good health. (1/3)Big thanks to my dad, Barry Hunter, Hal Chernoff, and everyone else that has helped me along this journey. Thank you to everyone that came out. I hope you were thoroughly entertained and in agreement with the decision. (2/3)I thank God for the gifts I have, and blessing me to use them to the best of my abilities. See y’all soon!!#BLESSED#ThePorterWay#2Time!! (3/3).”
Congrats to Shawn Porter and his team. Next up could be a unification with Errol Spence Jr in the new year.
