The Amir Khan vs Samuel Vargas fight has set a new record in UK boxing history and just goes to show just how big a star UK boxer Amir Khan really is.
Khan is one of those few boxers who is known both in America and the UK, and around the world for that matter.
While he might have a number of detractors you cannot take away from his exciting fight style, bravery or his huge fan base.
Even Floyd Mayweather referred to it one time as:
“He’s got a pretty cool little fan base, actually.”
Well, fast forward a few years and after a stint on ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ and two comeback wins following the Canelo KO loss, his promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed this morning:
Congratulations to @amirkingkhan and Sammy Vargas on a great fight – the fight recorded the biggest live UK audience on subscription TV (non PPV) in boxing history ???? pic.twitter.com/MQqHembfLU
— Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) September 9, 2018
If Khan fights in the UK next up and indeed from here on out in his career, whoever it’s against, the above ensures he will be the A-Side in any negotiations he’s involved in moving forward.
Considering the boom in UK boxing the last few years, to set the above biggest live audience record outside of pay per view is some achievement to be fair.
