Amir Khan won a unanimous points decision tonight in Birmingham after a fight where he was dropped hard early on big an overhand right.
Khan got back up to go on to win the fight to his credit.
He didn’t look at his best, far from it, but it’s important to realize that he hadn’t gone more than a round in a professional boxing ring for nearly three years.
His comeback fight earlier this year after the long hiatus ended in the first 40 seconds.
So you couldn’t really call that a fight.
He got the rounds under his belt tonight and now moves on to some potentially big bouts.
One of which being against Manny Pacquiao, potentially.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Khan said that fight is his preference:
“Both fights are massive (Kell Brook and Manny Pacquiao). Manny is someone I would love to fight first. I’ve always wanted that fight even before Kell Brook, yeah. We’ve trained together. I’ve done so well against southpaws. I probably do better against southpaws than I do with the orthodox fighters. I’ve got a 100% record against them. Yeah it would be more like a technical, tactical fight, yeah.”
After watching tonight’s fight you’d have to think Pacquiao would be more than happy to take the fight.
