Shawn Porter is getting ready for a world title fight with Danny Garcia but isn’t ruling out a possible showdown with Manny Pacquiao next year should he win.
A fight between the two if Porter were to win would represent a unification fight with Pacquiao capturing the WBA title recently in Malaysia with his TKO of Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse.
Speaking to American reporters in an open media scrum, Porter said:
“My dad knows who to contact (to potentially make a fight with Pacquiao). We’ll figure out which way we want to move after this fight (against Garcia). I didn’t expect him (Pacquiao) to come back the way he has. I expected him to beat Lucas Matthysse but still, it’s not the Manny Pacquiao we are used to seeing. But the flip side of that is you guys (the media) don’t care that it’s not the Manny Pacquiao we are used to seeing. The flash, the lightning speed, the powerful left hand. He is okay with competing and winning and he (still) loves that part of it (boxing), I understand.”
He might not be the Manny Pacquiao of old but the Matthysse win shows he still has plenty left to offer the sport.
Pacquiao is planning one more fight before the year is out and two more in 2019 before retiring.
